Nov 04, 2003 Novell announced that they are acquiring SUSE linux and January 2004 the transaction was completed at approximate value of $210 million.
Now its speculated Novell itself is up for sale. Its said that Novell rejected the offer of $5.75 per share in cash, or about $1 billion net of Novell’s cash position made by Elliott Associates in March 2010. Novell stated value as “inadequate” and stressed “it undervalues the company’s franchise and growth prospects”.
It is also speculated Novell is 3-4 weeks away from announcing a deal to sell itself in two parts, the New York Post reports, citing “people close to the process.”
The post also states that a strategic buyer will buy the company’s SUSE Linux business, with a private equity buyer taking “much of the rest.” The source also states that the deal could still fall apart as Novell isn’t commenting, and the its source would not name the buyers. The post also states that total proceeds from the two deals will cross the Elliott’s offer.
If the speculations are true we might hear about the sale by mid of October till than let’s wait and watch.
